Eat SmartResolve to Stop Holiday Overeating!

WHEREAS: Eating only small portions will reduce calorie intake.

WHEREAS: Arriving at a party with an empty stomach is a bad idea.

WHEREAS: Parties will be focused on the social aspects instead of the food.

WHEREAS: Alcoholic beverages have calories.

WHEREAS: The holiday season is stressful.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: I will:

  • Not waste calories on foods I don't care for.
  • Try a bit — and only a bit — of the ones I can't resist.
  • Eat a small but healthy snack before I go out.
  • Not spend too much time lingering in the areas where the food is served.
  • Engage in conversation and activities (such as dancing) to take my hands off eating and drinking.
  • Not get talked into second and third helpings.
  • Shower my host with compliments and offer a firm "no thank you" when encouraged to eat more.
  • Count calories from alcoholic beverages knowing that eggnog can have over 400 calories per cup.
  • Realize that alcoholic beverage affects my judgment and determination to keep to a healthy holiday plan.
  • Drink water or no-calorie beverages instead of alcoholic beverages.
  • Be the designated driver, thereby dodging the calories and keeping the roads safe!
  • Get some rest and some extra sleep.
  • Sit down and have a healthy breakfast in the morning.
  • Make good use of my free time by being physically active and eating healthy, nutritious foods.
