Do I weigh too much,
or not quite enough?

A Body Mass Index calculator can help you figure that out. Body Mass Index, commonly abbreviated as BMI, is a number that's calculated using your weight and height. It does not diagnose a weight problem, but it's a good indicator of whether you're too heavy or too thin.

Below are the standard weight status categories and associated BMI ranges for adults:

BMI Weight Status
Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5 – 24.9 Normal/Healthy
25.0 – 29.9 Overweight
30.0 and Above Obese

For a more complete explanation of Body Mass Index, visit CDC's About BMI for Adults. If your BMI is not in the normal range, talk to your health care provider to find out whether you face any health risks.
