Live Well is created by and for DHSS employees. We hope that, with requested funding, this site will evolve into a bigger, more interactive version used by all Alaskans seeking timely and accurate information about good health.
National President's Challenge
Between now and July, we can all participate in this national competition to feel better and look better, too. Last year, more than 500 DHSS employees signed up for the challenge, helping Alaska take first place among all states for the highest per-capita participation. We can compete for the win again this year.
The national President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports has invited every state to participate in the six-week Challenge. Once you sign up, you have eight weeks to complete six weeks of physical activity. Adults need to complete at least 30 minutes of activity during five days of each week.
About Live Well
In May 2008, the Division of Public Health within the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services started a new Web site called Live Well. Staff throughout the division had already gathered information about healthy eating, as well as the benefits of becoming more physically active and quitting tobacco use.
Every few weeks, the department’s public health and public information staff worked together to update the Web site with healthy recipes, body mass index calculators and other helpful tools, as well as local suggestions for getting active in your local communities. It seems like there’s always a fun run nearby, or a trail you wanted to hike but just haven’t gotten around to it yet.
